Twilight!
That's right, a post about the Twilight series, so if you don't like it, I give you permission not to continue reading! I enjoyed writing my post on Harry Potter last week, so I thought I'd do the same kind of thing for some other book series' that I like.
The Twilight series is probably my second favourite series (Harry Potter being my favourite). I read it before the movies came out, before it was as popular as it is now. I have to admit, I really don't like the movies and I can see why people don't like Twilight because of them.
Favourite Book: My favourite book of the series is New Moon, because I love all of the emotions that I go through while reading it. I also love seeing how Bella behaves when Edward isn't there, and I love her relationship with Jacob! They have a lot of fun together and I love their banter, so it's fun to read. Of course, I also love it when Edward comes back at the end :)
Favourite Character: I think I'll go with Alice, because she's very quirky and so funny! Also she's a great friend to Bella throughout the series. I'd go with Bella as my favourite, but she can be quite annoying at times!
Favourite Villain: Aro, because he's so two faced! He's always so seemingly nice and polite to everyone, but he always has an ulterior motive.
Favourite vampire power: I like Benjamin's power of being able to control the elements, I'd love to be able to do that. I also wouldn't mind having the ability of being able to tell if someone is lying, that would certainly come in useful!
Favourite Quote: "Life sucks, and then you die." Jacob Black uses this phrase in Breaking Dawn, and ever since I read it I've been saying it whenever I have a bad day! I just like the phrase, sometimes it feels like it's true, but I know it's not :)
Least favourite Book: Breaking Dawn. It just didn't grab me as much as the other three did, it didn't seem to flow as well for me. I still enjoyed it, but I preferred the others.
Least favourite Character: Rosalie, because she's just a bitch! She redeemed herself slightly in the third book when we learnt her story, and in the fourth when she helped Bella, but she only did it for her own gain, it wasn't out of the kindness of her heart.
Least favourite Villain: Jane, because she's just evil and I really don't like her power. I loved it during the final battle when she was trying to use it but couldn't because of Bella's shield, that was awesome!
Least favourite vampire power: I didn't like the sensory deprivation power that Alec had, because for one thing, in a fight that would be cheating! I also didn't like the power that breaks emotional bonds between people, just because it sounds horrible. I'm glad those powers didn't get used.
Vampires or Shapeshifters: Vampires, sorry Jacob!

I love Twilight too and read them before the movies came out. The movies do suck compared with the books but I will still watch them lol
ReplyDeleteTwilight and Breaking Dawn are favourite books, I hated New Moon purely because I don't like Jacob at all lol!
I hate Jane and Rosalie too and thought Ben's power was awesome as well :) Alice is my favourite too!
I must admit, I do watch them occasionally! But I really didn't like the latest one :P
DeleteOh I don't mind Jacob, although he can be very obnoxious sometimes!
Glad I'm not the only one that hates those two! :)
My favourite Character is Alice, but only after she chases the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole, the Mad Hatter is quite good too and it was a cool twist turning the Cheshire Cat into a vampire......... AH.....Hang on maybe I'm on the wrong book ......... DAMN
ReplyDeleteHaha Alice in Wonderland, another brilliant book! :)
DeleteI know what it's like to love a book and then find out the movie sucks. I had the same with The Hunger Games.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I've ever read the Twilight books though. My sister says they ultimately suck (and that the movies suck even harder) but I do have to admit I am kind of curious so maybe I should just pick book 1 up and see how I feel about it.
Oh I really like the books, I think most people just dislike them because of the movies. They did make it look really bad!
DeleteI really liked the Hunger Games movie, and I read the books first! Each to their own, I guess :)
You know, I read Twilight, the entire series...and it was entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of the flack it gets comes from people who want books to be more than entertaining, but the reason their best sellers had little to do with the prose, and everything to do with the fact that the story is good (in the same way most romance novels have a good story), and thats what they were, romance novels mascaraing as something else.
I'll be honest, towards the end I was over the series, Bella's character had so little personality, and the thought that a girl who had no personality, and who according to the books wasn't really all that attractive had these two girls fighting over her really got dull.
Thanks for the review! It's nice to see a fair review of these books every now and again.
Thanks! I do understand why some people don't like them, but I think it helped that I read them before I saw the movies.
DeleteI actually like Bella as a character, although she is a little annoying sometimes! :)
Screw the critics! Anyway, I haven't read the books or seen the movies so I really can't say much about the series. My friend accompanied his girlfriend to the movies and he actually enjoys them.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, although I know little about the series, I find this post very interesting. You should do this with more books. Maybe Hunger Games next?
Glad you enjoyed it! I actually have a lot of series I want to do a post like this for, and Hunger Games is on the list. I might even do it for next Monday :)
DeleteI was a fan of Twilight, but the movies turned me off to it and the crazy, extreme fans. It's good, but I can't like it. Also, the 4th book, sorry but it was kinda crappy. I do like Alice though - she's pretty cute!
ReplyDeleteI have an award for you over at my blog!
I've definitely been put off by the movies and crazy fans, but I still like the books, just not as much!
DeleteThank you, I'll go check it out! :)
My fav book was Breaking Dawn but the 3rd part. I loved all the vamps coming together and learning what powers they had. It was like having the xmen in the middle of vamps vs uhmmm vamps. lol. Loved this!
ReplyDeleteOh I loved the third part, it really was amazing seeing the Volturi practically powerless! :)
DeleteSo is this a case of Hollywood doing a bad job of the books?
ReplyDeletep.s. I've never read the books or seen the films
DeleteI certainly think so; I can see why some people dislike the books, but I think most people dislike Twilight because of the way the characters were represented in the films. A lot of things were changed and the characters seemed a lot weaker in the films. :)
DeleteThe filme were summarised by Stephen King as 'Isn't it great to have a boyfriend'. Bit harsh.
DeleteHaha I've heard that he really doesn't like Twilight, he's said a lot of harsh stuff about it!
DeleteI haven't read the books but I've seen the movies. I enjoyed the first one but it kinda goes downhill from there :)
ReplyDeleteThe books are much better, you should try them out :)
DeleteIf anything I'll stick with the Twilight parodies. Those are hilarious.
ReplyDeleteHaha I do like the parodies, very funny :)
DeleteHaha it's so true though! Glad it made you smile! :)
