Celebrate the Small Things

Image
Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author . The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week. This week I'm celebrating: - Finishing and scheduling all of my A to Z posts - Realising that I'm more ahead with my assignments than I thought I was - That I get Sunday off because of Easter, and I rarely get Sundays off work (Although I still have to work today, tomorrow and Monday, but that's okay because bank holidays means time and a half!)

Express Yourself - Childhood reading

Image
This week's question for the Express Yourself meme (hosted by Dani and Jackie ) is: What books did you enjoy as a child? Apparently my memory is really terrible, since I can't remember what I read when I was really little, so I'm going with what I read when I was a teenager. Most of these I still read now: - The Harry Potter series, of course. It's a lifelong obsession. - I used to love stuff by Michael Morpurgo, Cool and Kensuke's Kingdom in particular - Malorie Blackman was also a favourite, Dead Gorgeous being the book I read the most of hers. - I've read most books by Sarah Dessen, and loved Last Chance and Just Listen. - Looking for Alaska by John Green. I've yet to read any of his other stuff, and I really need to! Not exactly childhood reading, but it'll do :)

A Quick Post

Just a quick post to let you all know that I'm over at Geek Banter with Allison today, talking about my favourite anime, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! A great opportunity, since I don't talk about anime on my blog too much :)

Here are my celebrations for this week: - it was my last week of lectures at uni this week, and while this is sad because I won't see my friends much any more, it's also a good thing because I'll have more time to work on my assignments! - I applied for some unpaid work on an online magazine  and got accepted, so I write articles for them now. I'm hoping I'll be able to get some editing experience eventually.  - I've finalised my dissertation idea, which means I know what I'm doing for all of my remaining assignments. All I need to do now is finish them!

The Big Reveal

Image
I know I already revealed my theme a couple of weeks ago, but I thought I'd reveal it again for the purposes of this blog hop, co-hosted by Mina Lobo and David Macaulay . My theme for the A to Z challenge this year is going to be Greek Mythology. I've been researching it a lot recently for one of my assignments for my Creative Writing Masters, and it's been really interesting. It should make a good topic for the challenge, and I certainly have a lot of material to work with. I've scheduled my first few posts already, and should have them all scheduled by this time next week. The posts will mostly be about the myths that I've been reading, and there will be some focus on creatures in Greek Mythology as well. I'm having trouble with some of the letters (Q, Y, V) because the Greek alphabet doesn't have them, but I'm sure I'll come up with something! Hopefully you all enjoy what I come up with :)

Express Yourself - Luck

Image
Time for the weekly dose of Express Yourself, co-hosted by  Dani and Jackie . This week's question is: Do you have a lucky charm or a lucky ritual? I don't think I have any particular lucky charms. I have a ring that I wear all the time that I don't like taking off (I have this fear that something bad will happen if I do!) but that's about it. Hmm lucky rituals...I don't think I have any lucky rituals, as I tend to believe that we make our own luck. I do have rituals though, and I have to do things in certain ways sometimes, but my mind has gone blank and I can't think of an example. I 'touch wood' a lot. If I'm talking about anything bad happening, I'll touch wood to prevent it from happening to me. For example, I've never had a broken bone, so if I say that out loud I'll touch wood to make sure I don't get any in future. (Actually just touched some wood; I'd like my body to stay unbroken!) Also, I used to love the ce

This week I'm celebrating: - My 23rd birthday, which was on Wednesday. Though I was at uni I had a great day, and even got a free piece of black forest gateaux :) - I've finally started scheduling my posts for the A to Z challenge - I got my results for the assignments I handed in back in January, and I did very well. I'm also celebrating that I've been given the Sunshine Award, by S. K. Anthony , thanks! As usual, I'm supposed to nominate other bloggers, but it's so hard to narrow down who to give the award to, so if you haven't had this one, feel free to take it! Just make sure you send me a link to your answers :) What inspired you to start blogging? I started my blog on a whim, because I wanted to start writing more. My posts from my earlier days were terrib

Blog Blitz

Image
D. L. Hammons over at Cruising Altitude has had a great idea for a new Blog hop, and I wanted to help him get the word out there. Here's what the hop involves: "Everyone knows I like to try new and different things, so today I present to you the BLOG BLITZ. Here’s how I see it working. Sign up on the linky list below, making sure to record your email address, and you’ll instantly become a member of the Blog Blitz Team. Then from time to time, I will select a deserving blog (that must be part of the Blitz Team) and a specific date. I will then email the team members that information and on that date we all will go out of our way to visit that blog and leave an encouraging comment on their most recent post. I'm talking about hopefully a 100+ comments appearing out of the blue in one day!" I think it's an awesome idea for a blog hop, and I hope you'll all consider joining in the fun! Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of anAspiring Author . The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week. I have quite a lot to celebrate this week: - I went to Hartwell Ford on Tuesday to have a look around, and ended up buying a new car...I loved my old car, but I'm glad to get a new one since I did have quite a few problems with the old one. This one is two years newer and has only done 9000 miles, so hopefully I'll have less problems with it. I can't wait to pick it up later on today :) It's an interesting colour, kind of a pale creamy green, which I've never seen before. - I also got my hair cut. I hadn't had it cut for about a year (I'm not exaggerating here, unfortunately) so it was very long, it reached the bottom of my back. It's now shoulder length, and I also got highlights so it's blonder too. It's so much easier to manage! Although I'm going to miss al

Express Yourself - Favourite Colour

Image
This week, the question for the Express Yourself meme is 'What is your favourite colour?' My absolute favourite colour is purple, and you can tell because I have a purple bedroom, a purple car (though not for much longer!) and even dyed the underneath of my hair purple a couple of years ago. Here are a few pictures I've found of my favourite shades: Taken from here Taken from here Taken from here Taken from here Taken from here Like Jackie and Dani, I'm also quite partial to the colour green, although I don't have quite as many things to show for it, besides my green eyes :)

ISWG - March

Image
Time for this month's ISWG post, hosted, of course, by Alex J. Cavanaugh. I'm feeling quite confident in my writing right now - the only problem is I'm having trouble with getting the time to write, but that should be rectified in the next couple of days. I've got an assignment due in next Wednesday that I had hoped I'd have nearly finished by now, but unfortunately life keeps getting in the way! Every time I set aside a day to work on it, something comes up (usually getting called into work) and then I don't get any work done. However, I have a full day on Thursday where I'll be alone in the house, so I should get a lot of work done, since I work best when I'm alone (less distractions!). Hopefully, I'll get it finished then; there are two games coming out on Friday, and I won't be able to play them unless my assignment is finished! My next assignment (due in on the 24th April) is pretty big; I have to create a professional pamphlet and

March Goals

I can't believe it's March already, my favourite month of the year (well, after December, anyway!) so it's time for another monthly goal post. Here are my goals from last month: Catch up on the 7000 words - This goal was referring to the 1000 words in 100 days challenge, which I'm no longer taking part in, so obviously I did not meet this goal. That's fine, though, since I gave up on the challenge so I would be able to do my assignments and everything at my own pace, rather than worrying about hitting a word count. Redesign my blog - I finally did this in early February, and I'm still loving the new look. It's much calmer than my old design, which I think is a good thing! Read 4 more books - I haven't had much time for reading, but thankfully we had to read a couple of books for uni this month, so I've read two more books towards my goal for 50. Hopefully I'll find more time for reading this month. Work on my assignments - I'm feeling prett

Celebrate the Small Things and the Bloghop of Joy!

Image
So, apologies of the lateness of this post! Yesterday was busier than I expected it to be, as was Thursday when I was hoping to schedule the post. But here it is, finally! First of all, Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author . The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week. Here's what I'm celebrating this week: - I have my car back, yay! I so missed it last week, I went on a long drive yesterday and it was heavenly! - I wrote some poetry for my pamphlet, which I put up on my blog and got some very kind comments. Thanks! - I went to a ball with my sister and her boyfriend last night, and we had a great time. And now, for the Bloghop of Joy, hosted by Kyra Lennon and Clare Dugmore. In these cold, winter months, everything can seem kind of ... bleak. However, every now and again, something small will happen that makes us smile again. It could be a random memory, something you s
