Express Yourself - Childhood reading
This week's question for the Express Yourself meme (hosted by Dani and Jackie) is: What books did you enjoy as a child?
Apparently my memory is really terrible, since I can't remember what I read when I was really little, so I'm going with what I read when I was a teenager. Most of these I still read now:
- The Harry Potter series, of course. It's a lifelong obsession.
- I used to love stuff by Michael Morpurgo, Cool and Kensuke's Kingdom in particular
- Malorie Blackman was also a favourite, Dead Gorgeous being the book I read the most of hers.
- I've read most books by Sarah Dessen, and loved Last Chance and Just Listen.
- Looking for Alaska by John Green. I've yet to read any of his other stuff, and I really need to!
Not exactly childhood reading, but it'll do :)
These are all great authors and books!
ReplyDeleteThey're all ones that I've read over and over again :)
DeleteIf you loved Looking for Alaska, you HAVE to read The Fault in Our Stars. My absolute favorite book of the year last year!
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing great things about it, but I just haven't had the time! It's on my to-read list :)
DeleteSarah Dessen books - great choice!
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter series - LOVE it! :)
I couldn't not include that :)
DeleteHarry Potter defines my childhood too Laura, absolutely love all the books.
ReplyDeleteGreat post too, so many books that I haven't read before, so good to remember your childhood like that.
DeleteIt is, I still read most of them now! :)
DeleteA most excellent list, Laura! I need to sign up for this meme. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a lot of fun :)
DeleteVery good list! I have read the Harry Potter series too!! They were fun, amazing and I could never put them down. When I was still waitressing...pt time at a country club in the evenings....I had my supervisor make my name badge to read "Hedwig"! Lol!! That is how much I was into Harry Potter.
ReplyDeleteBut, when I was really young, the first book I ever read was "Star Girl", by Henry Winterfield. I still have that book to this day! I was also into all of the Nancy Drew, Carolyn Keene mystery books, and my parents allowed me to have the book club to get them!
It is amazing what we have all read and liked as children, teens, and adults young and old!!
I'm fairly obsessed with Harry Potter, I wish it had never ended! At least I can re-read them :)
DeleteOops!! I wasn't apart of the Express yourself group! I didn't know!! Sorry!! But I had fun talking about it anyway!! Sandy
ReplyDeleteYou can still comment on posts, that's fine :) You should join up, it's fun :)
DeleteI rather enjoyed Artemis Fowl.
ReplyDeleteI know you mentioned other great books but after Harry Potter I'm not sure I paid attention... the shame. I'm just a little obsessed with HP lol
ReplyDeleteI've never read any of the Harry Potter books. I decided after watching the movies that I had two choices I either read the book or watched the movie- but not both because it just messes it up. LOL
