The Endings Blogfest

L. G. Keltner is hosting this blogfest to celebrate her two year blogging anniversary. You can pretty much write about anything as long as it has something to do with endings.

I was going to write some flash fiction for this blogfest, but I'm terribly disorganised at the moment and I ran out of time. So I'm cheating a little, and compiling a few quotes regarding endings instead.

“There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stop the story.”
― Frank Herbert

“Ends are not bad things, they just mean that something else is about to begin. And there are many things that don't really end, anyway, they just begin again in a new way. Ends are not bad and many ends aren't really an ending; some things are never-ending.”
― C. JoyBell C.

“I always had this idea that you should never give up a happy middle in the hopes of a happy ending, because there is no such thing as a happy ending. Do you know what I mean? There is so much to lose.”
― John Green, Let it Snow

“Though no one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.”
― Carl Bard

“The opposite of the happy ending is not actually the sad ending--the sad ending is sometimes the happy ending. The opposite of the happy ending is actually the unsatisfying ending.”
― Orson Scott Card

And in real life endings aren't always neat, whether they're happy endings, or whether they're sad endings.
― Stephen King

You don't reach points in life at which everything is sorted out for us. I believe in endings that should suggest our stories always continue.
― Lauren Oliver

  1. I can understand about being disorganized. You chose some wonderful quotes about endings! I always found the Frank Herbert quote to be quite true. I could go on forever telling the entire life story of my characters if I had the chance, but the story has to stop somewhere.

Thanks for participating in my blogfest!

  3. Unsatisfying endings are the worst. These are not "cliff-hanger" endings, or sad endings, or endings that didn't go how you thought they should, but endings that don't really resolve anything. Whether or not you like the ending, it should at least bring the story to some kind of resolution or conclusion, where there's growth or development of plot and character between the beginning and the end.

  8. Some great quotes. They remind me of another one, from Solon, the Ancient Greek philosopher/poet: "Count no man happy until he's dead."

  10. I LOVE quotes. Thanks for sharing. If I could pick a favorite it would have to be the one from Carl Bard. It's very similar to the C.S. Lewis quote I have as my Facebook cover. I love making new endings.
