About Me

So, while at work this morning, I realised that I hadn't actually said very much about myself in yesterdays blog post, apart from the fact that I have a bad temper sometimes, which doesn't paint a very good picture of myself! So here is a post to describe me.
I'm 21 and from England, I have a degree in English Literature but I'm currently working at Asda. I've recently become very interested in a career in Journalism, and it is this that encouraged me to start this blog. I'm just about to start some work experience at a voluntary magazine to get better acqainted with Journalism, so I'm sure there'll be plenty of posts about that! I'm also trying to teach myself to play the keyboard/piano, so I'm sure that'll feature here too :)
I'm an avid player of The Sims games, as well as Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and 3, so they might get a few mentions too.
I'm going to leave it at this for the time being, got to save something for future posts!

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by  Lexa Cain . The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week, no matter how small. Here's what I'm celebrating this week: - We're due thunderstorms today, which I really hope come! At the time of writing (Thursday evening) I can hear the distant rumbles of thunder, but no rain as of yet. It's been far too hot for far too long - here in England we're just not equipped to deal with extreme heat (or extreme any kind of weather, really). Roll on winter! I've been glad to go to work just for the air conditioning!  - I went to the gym on Monday and Wednesday this week, and will be going tonight as well - that's more in a week than I've gone all year. WEP August - Change of Heart

So I actually wrote this piece for April's WEP, but I was ill so didn't get to post it in the end. I'm quite glad, as it suits this month's theme so much more. Change of Heart ‘Are you ready for this?’ Paul asked. Brian nodded, trying to steady his shaking hands. ‘You’re the only one who can defeat him,’ Molly said. ‘We believe in you.’ She stepped back to join Paul. Brian balled his fists as he looked at the huge stone doors before him. He took a deep breath and pushed them open. Before the doors closed, Brian glimpsed Paul and Molly turn and begin to walk away. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust to the darkness inside. With a whispered word he created light in the palm of his hand, raising it so it would light up the room. It was empty apart from another doorway, much smaller than the first, hidden away in the corner. A is for Arachne and Arlee!

Before I get to my Greek Mythology part of this post, at the request of Alex J. Cavanaugh  (great idea by the way, Alex!), I'd first like to thank Arlee Bird for coming up with the challenge in the first place. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be taking part in this amazing experience every year. Thanks, Arlee! This is one of my favourite tales from Greek mythology, so naturally I chose it for my first letter. Arachne was the daughter of a shepherd, and was famous for the beautiful tapestries she weaved. Nymphs would travel from all over to see her work, and to watch her weave. One day, a nymph asked her if her talent was a gift from the goddess Athena. Arachne protested, saying her skill was all her own, and that her weaving was better than Athena's. Athena heard of this, and challenged the girl to a weaving contest.
