Re-Introduce Myself Blogfest

The aim of this blogfest is to re-introduce myself to all of my new followers (or old followers who don't know much about me!) Brought to you by Mark Koopmans, Elise Fallson, and C.M. Brown, and Stephen Tremp.

So, here are a few things about me that you may or may not know. My name is Laura, and I've been blogging for almost a year now, and writing for even less time than that. My life was incredibly boring before I started blogging and writing; I just worked and sat around playing games at home.

I live in England, in a town called Grimsby, and currently work at Asda. I'm in the middle of my MA in Creative Writing, which I'm enjoying immensely. My main aim in life is to get a job related to writing, hopefully in either Publishing or Journalism, and eventually I'd like to be published. I think most of this involves moving away from Grimsby, which I'll be sad to do.

I love reading, mostly young adult/fantasy/paranormal or anything with magic in it; I'm a huge fan of Harry Potter. I also watch a lot of anime, and therefore tend to swear in Japanese a lot. I love driving and listening to music, mostly metal/rock, although sometimes I go through a slightly quieter phase. I love horse riding but can't afford to go very often, and I love Winter and all that comes with it.

Oh, and I just made a twitter account. Feel free to follow :) @LauraClipson

  5. Nice to meet you Laura. I would say 're-meet' but really I don't know you that well to begin with! hehe. I too am a big metal/rock fan, mostly alt rock and grunge but metal is a fairly big part of my life too!

I was also born in England but haven't lived there since I was 18 months old or so. ;)

  6. Like you and Trisha, I was born in England, but I moved to the US when I was 11, and then Canada. So now I have the most mixed up accent possible. :)

    Nice to meet you, Laura!

  7. Nice to meet you Laura. I love anime so much that I started taking Japanese lessons but I found out it's like the most difficult language to learn. I still watch anime.

  8. Hi Laura, I am new to the blogosphere too, but have been enjoying it so much! Feel free to stop by my little nut-tree and have a look around if you'd like. I'm actually writing a MG fantasy novel which takes place in England--Glastonbury actually.
    Nice to meet you!

  11. Hi Laura. I have been blogging for about a year as well. I started blogging because I felt so disconnected from the world living in China. Blogging reconnected me to the world outside of my little bubble. It was great to meet you.

  12. Nice to re-meet you. Who knew watching anime would teach a girl from Grimsby to swear in Japanese?

  13. Sounds like you have a great plan. Good luck with all your goals.

  14. Swearing in Japanese... I wonder what that sounds like?
I appreciate all styles of music, but when it comes to rock, I prefer the lighter version!

  16. Hi, Laura,

So nice to meet another HP-phile. I was J.K. Rowling who made me fall in love with magic and reading again. It came a time in my life when I really needed it. She also greatly influenced me to become a writer. My first novel is an m/g fantasy.

I wish I had studied more creative writing in college. I focused on my art/illustration at that time. Would love to go back to university to take some courses though.

I am looking forward to getting to know you better.

  23. I don't swear in Japanese, but I do call people "baka" a lot . . . Which anime do you like? I haven't watched in ages, but I did love "Utena" and "Card Captor Sakura."

  24. Good luck with your career, doing an MA sounds great. I studied journalism at college and though I'm not working in that field now it taught me great lessons to apply in my writing. Not just grammar but telling a good story with a hook.

I imagine swearing in Japanese sounds comical, also less offensive in general and a good talking point, I'm guessing!

  25. Cool that you can swear in Japanese. I think Grimsby is a nice sounding name.

  30. Hello, Laura!

We have the same tastes in books! I love YA w/tons of magic. I wish I could say I love horses, but as a kid, I had a rotten horse that liked to throw runaways w/me, so now, I just admire their beauty, but keep my feet on the ground, so my butt doesn't hit the ground, lol. And I'm totally jealous of you! I wish I could swear in Japanese! Maybe that will be my new goal for 2013! It's great meeting you! I look forward to reading more of your posts!
