What's Up Wednesday

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow, and the idea is to let other bloggers know where you are with any writing and reading goals you may have.

What I'm reading

I finished reading Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake, and it was a great sequel. My favourite scene was the forest scene, has anyone read it? I found it so scary, I was reading it in bed and I actually hid under my covers a couple of times. Creepy stuff!

I'm currently reading A Witch In Love by Ruth Warburton, which is OK. It's the second book in a series; I read the first one just after Christmas, and while it wasn't brilliant I'd still like to know what happens in the rest of the series. Plus, since it's about witches it counts as research for my NaNo novel.

What I'm writing

Right now I'm working on revisions for my NaNo novel, Hunted. I'm rewriting the whole thing, and I've done two chapters so far. I was hoping to get chapter three done today, but I'm not at home. I sent myself an e-mail with the scrivener project as an attachment, but it hasn't opened properly. Everything's blank, so I don't know what happened there. Oh well, I'll just have to make up for it tomorrow.

What else I've been up to

The reason why I'm not at home right now is because my sister just got two adorable kittens, and she wanted me to babysit them while she's at work. Obviously, I don't mind! They kind of make me miss my cat, Misty, though.

What's that I hear, you want to see some pictures? Well, OK!

They look pretty big in these pictures, but they're actually tiny. The tabby (Socks) can fit in the palm of my hand. The grey one (Shadow, for now, although that is likely to change) is her brother. He guards her when she's sleeping, it's so cute.

And here's one of Misty, since I haven't put her on here in a while (and I'd hate for her to feel left out):

What inspires me right now

Making progress on the edits for my NaNo novel is definitely inspiring. I've wanted to get started on them for so long, so it's super motivating to actually be getting somewhere with them. I really wish I could start working on chapter three now, though, but I can't do anything with my notes. Oh well, at least I have kittens to play with!

Comments

  1. Glad you're making progress! Don't let the cuteness deceive you - I bet those kittens know how to cause trouble.

  2. Those kittens are so cute. And the book in the box with Misty made me smile, I've just finished my last assignment for the OU Children's Literature course.

  5. I really enjoyed GIRL OF NIGHTMARES! That forest section was seriously creepy.

Those kittens are so cute! ^^

Glad you're making progress, though it's a shame about the files. Hope you get to work on your edits soon! :)

  8. Oh, my gosh. The kitties are adorable! I'm cat-sitting right now too. :-) There are currently five cats in my house right now, which is just bonkers. (Two of them are mine, but still.) Good luck with your revisions. It's too bad you weren't able to work on them today, but there's always tomorrow, right? Have a wonderful week, Laura!

  9. Ah kitties!! I do love zee leetle kitties. I also feel withdrawal when I don't have Scrivener available (like at work). Sometimes I'll write a scene in an email or a Word doc etc on my lunchbreak. But no editing, sadly.

  11. Ohhh those kittens are adorable! I just want to bundle them all up and snuggle them!

Best of luck with revisions, bummer about the file not opening properly though :( Fingers crossed you can make up for it in the rest of the week. Have a wonderful weekend, Laura!

  12. Aw! Those kittens are so cute! My life is full of kittens right now, too. And your Misty reminds me of my Cole. He's bigger, will be a year old in July, but he's all black and has a big, fluffy tail too. :)

  13. Oh, those kittens are too cute. We went to a friends house last weekend and they had a Boston Terrier puppy that had me completely transfixed. Good reason to be out! Being inspired by your own writing progress is always a great thing!

  14. Don't show those cats to my siblings. They've been wanting a cat for a long time now and they might steal one from you.

  15. I need to figure out how to properly email Scrivener files too. Usually I just copy scenes into Word and then email them, but that takes way too long when you're talking a whole manuscript. To borrow a word from your blog title, technology "baffles" me, even though I write sci-fi!

Those kittens are adorable! The grey one reminds me of my cat. Good luck with your NaNo project this week! :)

  16. Those kittens are ADORABLE!!! And sounds like you're making great progress on the WiP. A day off is always okay - especially if it's for kittens. :)

    Have a great week!
