Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author. The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week.


This week I'm celebrating: 

- The arrival of my sister's kittens. I can't believe how tiny they are! You'd think I'd be used to it, since Misty was a kitten last year, but she seems huge now compared to them. 

- Progress! I'm two chapters into my rewrite, and I'll hopefully be working on the third tonight. 

- My boyfriend treated me to a three course meal (at a pub, nowhere too posh) on Wednesday and it was lovely. It made a nice change, since usually when I visit him we stay in and watch TV. We were both so full once we'd finished, though. 

- Firefly. I started watching it again on Wednesday while I was babysitting the kittens, and I loved it. The only problem is, I don't own a copy myself so I can only watch it when I'm at my sister's house (the copy of Firefly there belongs to her boyfriend). Oh well, more excuses to babysit the kittens more often!

    Ohh kittens, we need pictures! They do grow up fast don't they? It's great to treat yourself to a meal out occasionally, glad you had fun. Hope you get to that chapter tonight.

    Firefly is definitely a great excuse to babysit kittens! :) Sounds like you've had a wonderful week! Way to go with your revisions!

    Firefly is a great show. And Serenity was the perfect little "after" movie.

So I actually wrote this piece for April's WEP, but I was ill so didn't get to post it in the end. I'm quite glad, as it suits this month's theme so much more. The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers. A is for Arachne and Arlee!

Before I get to my Greek Mythology part of this post, at the request of Alex J. Cavanaugh  (great idea by the way, Alex!), I'd first like to thank Arlee Bird for coming up with the challenge in the first place. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be taking part in this amazing experience every year. Thanks, Arlee! This is one of my favourite tales from Greek mythology, so naturally I chose it for my first letter. Arachne was the daughter of a shepherd, and was famous for the beautiful tapestries she weaved. Nymphs would travel from all over to see her work, and to watch her weave. One day, a nymph asked her if her talent was a gift from the goddess Athena. Arachne protested, saying her skill was all her own, and that her weaving was better than Athena's. Athena heard of this, and challenged the girl to a weaving contest.
