What's Up Wednesday

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow, and the idea is to let other bloggers know where you are with any writing and reading goals you may have.

1. What I'm reading
I just started re-reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - I couldn't resist! It's my favourite series, and I've been working so hard lately I thought I'd treat myself.
On my Kindle I've started re-reading The Hunger Games, since I can't really remember what happens! I wanted to re-read the series before the next movie comes out.

2. What I'm writing
I just finished the first draft of my dissertation yesterday, which I'm happy about. I'm going to print it off and take it to Spain with me on Friday, so I can edit it while I'm there.

3. What else I've been up to
I finished work on Monday for two weeks, so I've just been relishing my freedom since then! I finished my first draft, played The Sims 3 for a bit, read a little. Today and tomorrow will mostly be spent getting ready for Spain on Friday :)

4. What inspires me right now
The sunshine is very inspiring - it just puts me in such a good mood, though I don't really enjoy the heat!

  1. Have a lovely time in Spain! Congratulations on finishing the first draft of your dissertation too :D

The weather is wonderful, isn't it? Such lovely sunny days ^_^

  2. You're on vacation! Glad you finished that first draft so it's not hanging over you while in Spain. Enjoy and we'll see you when you return.

  3. I can't even tell you how often I get tempted to reread the Harry Potter books. They'll always be some of my favourites. Usually in October, with Halloween approaching I feel in the mood to read the whole series again. That's great that you finished a draft of your dissertation! Sounds like you've earned this trip to Spain with a lot of hard work! Hope you have a wonderful vacation!

  4. I haven't reread the Harry Potter series in a while. I was rereading everything before each movie was released, but the last one came out some time ago, and I'm not sure I've picked the books up again since then.

I'll definitely be rereading The Hunger Games series before the new movie is released.

  5. Oh, have fun in Spain! And you sound like me - print off hard copies to edit on the road. I have a hard time working on the computer in the car. Plus, I catch a lot more mistakes and just edit better with a hard copy.

I have a CATCHING FIRE reread in my future. So much happens in that story too and I know I've forgotten stuff.

    Have a great week!

  6. Enjoy Spain! I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I haven't played on Sims 3 for ages, I may just have to dig it out again.

  7. The Potter series is definitely worth re-reading periodically. They are such well-crafted stories, both individually, and as a series, not only can we enjoy them, but as writers we can learn so much from them.

I hope you have a lovely time in Spain, Laura. I've never been, but I'm sure it'll be a great opportunity for you to relax and re-charge.

  8. It's funny that you mention rereading HARRY POTTER and THE HUNGER GAMES, because I've been thinking about rereading both of those series lately. Every year around this time I get the urge to read HG and come fall I'll be itching to read HP again.

Enjoy your time off and the sunshine! :)

  9. woohoo, 2 weeks off! I need to reread Catching Fire before it comes out, can't remember much either.

  10. Have fun it Spain! It's such a beautiful country, I'm sure it will give you lots of inspiration. Also have fun with your re-reads. It's been a long time since I've read Harry Potter, but I always re-read the entire searies before the next book was released. So I know those books are just as fun to read the sixth time as they were the first.

  11. Have a blast in Spain Laura, I completely understand reading Harry Potter books again because I must have read the Goblet of Fire 20+ times and I never got bored of it! Did you hear about the new JK Rowling book that she wrote under another pseudonym, I'm excited to read it!

  12. Yes! to sunshine. It makes all the difference in the world. Hurrah on finishing the draft of your dissertation-- or at least being at the print and edit stage. I know how HUGE that is. I'm rereading HP with the kids right now and loving it! We're on to the Goblet of Fire... very exciting!

  13. I'm enjoying the heat...except for when I'm in work with no air conditioning and no AIR and about a million windows for the sun to stream through! Other than that, it's lovely! Hope you have a lovely time away and a nice break from work :)

  14. Congrats on finishing your dissertation draft -- I imagine that's a pretty amazing feeling! And your mention of Harry Potter kind of makes me want to do a reread. Perhaps I'll read the first book to my daughter. She's nearly six and dying to hear the story (makes me so proud!).

Enjoy your time in Spain, Laura!

  17. Every time I see an ad for the next movie, I get this urge to read the Hunger Games again. But I have far too many books on my TBR pile to be able to do that yet. :P
I hope you enjoy your time in Spain!
