Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop now hosted by Lexa Cain. The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week, no matter how small.


This week I'm celebrating:

- We found out on Tuesday that we definitely got the house we applied for! We get the keys next Tuesday, and then move in next weekend. The only downside is that it's cost a lot of money, but we'll just have to be careful over the next couple of months - I'm looking forward to moving. 

- I made a lemon glazed ginger cake on Sunday - it was delicious! Not bad for a first attempt at making one.

    Congratulations on getting the house! I hope you love it there and that the move isn't too stressful. Your cake looks yummy. Good job with that. Sometimes my first attempts are less than perfect. :)

    Cheers to the house! Having your own place is definitely worth the added cost. Also, that cake looks amazing. Your first attempt is probably better than my 20th attempt would be.

    Yay! I'm so happy for you. Our new house is what we call a "forced investment." It's a touch painful, but living in this open, beautiful environment does wonders for the psyche.

The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers. A is for Arachne and Arlee!

Before I get to my Greek Mythology part of this post, at the request of Alex J. Cavanaugh  (great idea by the way, Alex!), I'd first like to thank Arlee Bird for coming up with the challenge in the first place. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be taking part in this amazing experience every year. Thanks, Arlee! This is one of my favourite tales from Greek mythology, so naturally I chose it for my first letter. Arachne was the daughter of a shepherd, and was famous for the beautiful tapestries she weaved. Nymphs would travel from all over to see her work, and to watch her weave. One day, a nymph asked her if her talent was a gift from the goddess Athena. Arachne protested, saying her skill was all her own, and that her weaving was better than Athena's. Athena heard of this, and challenged the girl to a weaving contest.
