Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author. The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week.


This week I'm celebrating:

- Re-writes are going well; I'm still getting one scene day written, and I'm on chapter 5 now. 

- I treated myself to four new books on my kindle the other day; it was a choice between one paperback for £10 (City of Heavenly Fire, which I can't wait to read) or four kindle books for £10, so obviously I went with the four - four books are better than one, right? I got Eleanor and Park, Stormdancer, Cinder, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone, all of which I've heard great things about. I can't wait to get reading!

- Stories. Reading them, watching them, writing them - this week I'm celebrating stories in every form.

    Glad the re-writes are coming along! I always select eBooks for that very reason - I can get more of them for less money.

    Way to go with your revision re-writes! I hope you enjoy Cinder; it's a book that we all enjoyed in my household - as in my hubs, daughters, and I. :)

    Good job on the revisions! I also bought four books this week...and I'm supposed to be on a buying freeze until I finish the ones already on there...BUT I only spent $3 so I suppose it's not too big of a crime...

    Sounds like you're having a great week! I like your scene a day goal, I might try that. I've read three (going to check out Stormdancer) of the four books you bought and loved them all. Especially Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I have two copies of it so I always have one to lend. LOVE that book!

    I LOVE Cinder, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone was okay, but it felt more like an adult novel to me. *shrugs* I totally think you made the right decision. 4 is better than 1, and now they're all UBER portable. =)

So I actually wrote this piece for April's WEP, but I was ill so didn't get to post it in the end. I'm quite glad, as it suits this month's theme so much more. The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers. A is for Arachne and Arlee!

Before I get to my Greek Mythology part of this post, at the request of Alex J. Cavanaugh  (great idea by the way, Alex!), I'd first like to thank Arlee Bird for coming up with the challenge in the first place. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be taking part in this amazing experience every year. Thanks, Arlee! This is one of my favourite tales from Greek mythology, so naturally I chose it for my first letter. Arachne was the daughter of a shepherd, and was famous for the beautiful tapestries she weaved. Nymphs would travel from all over to see her work, and to watch her weave. One day, a nymph asked her if her talent was a gift from the goddess Athena. Arachne protested, saying her skill was all her own, and that her weaving was better than Athena's. Athena heard of this, and challenged the girl to a weaving contest.
