What's Up Wednesday
What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow, and the idea is to let other bloggers know where you are with any writing and reading goals you may have.
1. What I'm reading
I finally finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last week, so now I'm onto Order of the Phoenix. It's awesome, of course - I love how angry Harry gets in this book, because it shows that he's not perfect, and I would be angry too if I was in his position! I got a big chunk of reading done yesterday, which was nice, because usually I only fit in a few pages every night before bed.
2. What I'm writing
I just finished the third drafts of my short stories for my dissertation, so it's getting quite exciting now because I can see the finishing line! I'm going in to university today to see my tutor and see what he thinks of my work so far, so hopefully he won't have too many problems with it! Then I just need to do final edits and then work on the more technical sides of the dissertation - the abstract, bibliography and the critical analysis, which will definitely be the hardest part!
3. What else I've been up to
It was a bank holiday on Monday here in England this week, so I got three days off instead of my usual two, which was very nice! I mostly spent them catching up on my dissertation work and reading, but I've enjoyed them all the same.
4. What inspires me right now
I'm inspired by the fact that I'm nearly finished now - just one final push and my dissertation will be done, and then I'll be able to relax and not have to worry about deadlines or edits.
Hope your tutor is as excited as you!
ReplyDeleteI love the Order of the Phoenix Laura, mainly because of his blossoming relationship with Cho that fizzles out way too soon, it's a great book and one of my favourites. Harry actually becomes quite petulant and angry in that book but he's a teenager and it just shows that like all teenagers those kind of moods and attitudes come about, especially during a difficult time like he was going through.
ReplyDeleteWay to go- keep us updated on what your tutor says!
ReplyDeleteWOOHOO on the dissertation! Go get it!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome that you are so close! Go you! And good luck finishing up. Just being that close IS inspiring - it's often what gives me that final push. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the dissertation :D Hope the meeting with your tutor goes really well! ^_^
ReplyDeleteThat's great that you are getting closer to bring finished!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on keeping the course, tell us when you cross that finish line. I also enjoyed reading how angry Harry got as well. Let us know when you get to the last book.
ReplyDeleteI love the Order of the Phoenix! It's been a while since I last read the HP series, but I've been thinking about slowly making my way through them again.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the dissertation. That final push, and the inspiration of seeing the end draw near, is such an exciting thing!
My 8 year old is reading the Harry Potter series for the first time, and she cracks me up. She comes down the stairs talking like a true Brit and waving a makeshift wand. LOL. What I wouldn't give to go back to that stage just for a day and enjoy the ease of childhood.
ReplyDeleteThe Order of the Phoenix is one of my favourites! Sounds like you're making great progress with your dissertation. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your dissertation essays! Thanks for stopping by and dropping encouragement on my blog :)
ReplyDeleteYay for the light at the end of the dissertation tunnel! I hope you're feeling encouraged and motivated to finished, Laura. :) I'm sure the Bank Holiday weekend helped. We have Labor Day weekend coming up here in the States, which amounts to the same thing: three day weekend. I hope I can spend my time as fruitfully as you spent yours.
ReplyDeleteMay the writing goes well for you this week. :)
Awesome that you're so close to finishing up your stories. What a relief it will be to be done! I think I'm going to reread the HP books this fall. You've inspired me to do so (and I'm always eager to read them again once fall rolls around). Have a great week, Laura! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes! I felt the same way about Harry in OOTP. A lot of people complained about how angry and angsty he was, but I thought it was realistic and high time that he reacted that way! So glad you agree!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the continued work on your dissertation! :)
I would love to reread Harry Potter. Good luck finishing your dissertation. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteIs this your first time reading the Harry Potters? OotP is actually my favourite book, though not for the Harry parts because he was so full of his wizard angst. But it's actually book 6 I like the least because Harry is SOOOOOO annoying in that one. There's actually one part where something bad happens to him and I remember the first time I read it feeling really satisfied and just like everything was now right with the world because this thing happened to Harry when he was being a snot.
ReplyDeleteAlso, totes jellypants that you live in England the country of so many fabulous things: Harry Potter, the Phelps twins, the Harries twins, RPattz, TomStu, Billy Nighy, Vicar of Dibley, red Double Decker buses, Doctor Who...is there anything fabulous that your people DIDN'T create?!?!?
Just to let you know Miss Laura has read all the Harry Potter books about six or seven times now. She is a busy and does not always get a chance to respond to comments so I am doing a sneaky.
DeleteI also live in England and it has many Well Cool things, although strictly speaking Doctor Who is Welsh these days.
