Liebster Award!

The liebster award:

Nikki over at the little Nordic cabin has given me the Liebster Award, thanks Nikki!

"The Liebster Blog Award is an award given from bloggers to bloggers that are small to medium in size or

up and coming in the blogsphere. Liebster is German for "favorite." The award is a way to give beginning

bloggers some worthy attention, make connections and let readers learn a little more about you."

So here are the rules:

1. Answer the 11 questions

2. Give 11 facts about yourself

3. Nominate 11 other lovely bloggers

4. Post 11 new questions for your new nominees

Questions for me:

1. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

At one point, for about a week, I wanted to be a Greetings Card Designer. I quickly became aware that this wouldn't be possible, since I am not artistic in the slightest.
For the majority of my childhood I wanted to be a teacher, more because it was the only thing I could think of rather than thinking I'd be good at it. I tried to get onto the PGCE a couple of times after doing my Undergraduate, but I'm glad I didn't get on it because I've since realised I'd make a terrible teacher!

2.What did you actually grow up to become/what are you actually becoming?

A Writer! At the minute I'm doing a Masters in Creative Writing, which is going quite well. When I've finished I'm hoping to get a job in Publishing, or something to do with writing. This is quite hard, so it might take a while, and there really aren't that many prospects in my town, so I might have to move at some point.

3. Why do you blog?

I started blogging on a whim in February, because I'd decided in January that I wanted to pursue writing, and I thought starting a blog would be a good idea. I'm glad I did; I love the community and the bloggers in the blogosphere. If I hadn't started my blog, I doubt I'd be doing my Creative Writing Masters right now.

4. If you could have any super power, what would it be?

I would like the power of invisibility; I think it would be useful in a lot of different situations.

5. Which moment in your life so far are you most proud of?

I'm going to cheat and say three; I'm proud of passing my driving test (after three attempts) and buying my car without any help. I love driving, and getting my own car is one of the best things I've ever done. I'm also proud of graduating from University, although I graduated with a 2:2 which isn't very good. Last but not least, I'm proud that I decided to start writing; after a lot of uncertainty into what I wanted to do, I've realised that I'm on the right track at last.

6. Is there a book you think everybody should read?

I'm going to go for the obvious and say Harry Potter (the whole series) because it really is the best series I've ever read, and I think it can teach people a lot about friendship, sacrifice and love.

7. Do you remember what you were doing on this day last year?

This time last year I had no blog and no university, so I'd probably have spent the morning at work and the afternoon Christmas shopping or playing The Sims 3! I'm in a much better place this year.

8. 1 year from now, where would you like to be?

Preferably I’d like to have a paying job in the writing/publishing industry, but I can’t see that happening in
a year! Realistically, I’d like to have passed my masters really well.

9. What is your favourite country you've ever visited?

France; it was my favourite family holiday as a child, the five of us used to get the car ferry over and drive through France, all the way to the South. It used to take about 2 days just to get there, but I used to really love those journeys. I hope to go back one day, and maybe I'll be brave enough to drive! I would love to drive through France.

10. Do you have any sweet family traditions?

Erm…well my dad still comes over for Sunday lunch most weeks, even though he and my mum have
been divorced for three years…does that count? He also comes for Christmas day.

11. What is your favourite song at the moment?

Hmm one favourite song, hard question! Well my favourite band at the moment is Trivium, so I’m gonna
say it’s a toss up between Shogun and Departure.

11 facts about myself:

1. I find it much easier to share my writing here on my blog than read it aloud to someone; I have to
read my stuff aloud almost every week at uni, and I absolutely hate it! my heart thumps and my
voice goes all shaky and I can't catch my breath…it’s much easier posting on here!

2. I love Christmas; I wear Christmas ribbons, hair bobbles and earrings at work, and even have a
headband with tinsel on it and angels sticking up from it, that bounce around as I work. It makes
working a little more fun!

3. It’s not just at Christmas that I wear ribbons in my hair; I have a box full of different coloured
ribbons, and wear them in my hair all year round. We have to put our hair up for work, so it just
makes it a little more interesting to tie a ribbon around my ponytail. Plus, if I can use the ribbons
to show my mood; if I’m annoyed when getting ready or dreading the day before me, I’ll wear my
black one!

4. I really miss horse riding, and hope I can start again in January, even if I only go once a month.

5. It’s taken me a long time to start Christmas shopping this year; I’ll be lucky if everything arrives in
time!

6. All I want to do right now is go on a really long drive, but unfortunately I have work in the morning.

7. I look forward to the tradition of Christmas more than the presents I’ll be getting, although they’re
good too!

8. I’m looking forward to my little sister coming home from uni for Christmas; I see her once a week
now, since I go to uni where she lives on Wednesdays and therefore stay over, but it’ll be nice to
live with her again, if only for a few weeks.

9. I want it to snow, so that I can take Alfie for a walk in it and build snowmen and make snow
angels. The last time we had deep snow I had tonsillitis so I couldn’t enjoy it, and that was a
couple of years ago. Although I also managed to damage my car in that same snowfall, but I’ve
learnt my lesson now; always take corners super slowly in the snow!

10. I can’t wait to see The Hobbit; it looks amazing! We're going to see it on Monday for my sister's birthday.

11. I hate people that are constantly negative. My colleagues at work have been increasingly
negative recently, and I hate it because it makes me fed up before my shift has even started.
Most of the time it’s about silly things, too. I’m quite a positive person, and tend to see the glass
half full, but negativity can be catching! Luckily I’m quite good at letting things go over my head.

Comments

  1. Thanks for the award! I'll post about it sometime in the next couple of days. I wanted at one point to design greeting cards as well. I don't have artistic skill, but I figured if I wrote something witty enough, no one would mind the terrible drawings. As you can see, I'm not designing greeting cards in my spare time, so that didn't work out! Oh well. I also understand being fed up with negative people. I'm not always a ray of sunshine, but some people complain so much it's ridiculous.

    1. You're welcome! I look forward to seeing your answers :)
I agree, I just think work goes so much faster if you at least try to be happy while you're there.

  2. Great post as usual Laura, many congratulations on getting yet another awesome reward it's much deserved! I loved your answers and facts and especially your bit about why you blog. I'm exactly the same, I came to test my writing skills and now I'm staying because of how awesome the community is, absolutely love this.

  3. You are so cute. I love all your answers and the fact that you wear hair ribbons. We have a pretty huge age difference between us, I'm old enough to be your mom but I have daughters your age--one twenty-two with a little boy and one twenty-one, who is floundering a bit now, but I'm hopeful she'll figure out what she wants to do this year.

I always get along better with them and my teenagers friends than people my own age, and you sound like you'd be fun to hang out with. Alas, you are on the other side of a very large ocean. haha

And thanks so much for the award, but I already got this one! :)

P.S. I couldn't agree more about Harry Potter. It's NOTHING the same but something about the "realness" of the characters in The Raven Boys struck the same chord in me that the Harry Potter books did. Have you read those?

I haven't read The Raven Boys, but I read your review the other day and now it's on my to-read list!
