What if? Fairytale Madness Blogfest!

I’ve finally finished my piece for the What If?  Fairytale Madness Blogfest! Just in time too, today's the last day!

I chose the category Best Tragedy, and got my inspiration from Shakespeare, whose tragedies I love! Here’s my story:

Cinderella’s Revenge:

She sat in the darkened room, gazing at the bloody knife in her hands. She had finally done it; after years of ignorance and abuse, she had got her revenge on the people who had made her life hell.

Their bodies were laid on the floor at her feet, still in the beautiful dresses that they didn’t deserve to wear. Their faces were even uglier in death.

The hate and resentment had been building up for years, ever since her father married that vile woman, who had never been able to treat her as a daughter. She finally snapped after the ball, when her stepsisters got back and immediately began taunting her. “He’d never choose you…” “You’re too ugly to be a Queen…” “Who would marry a poor servant like you?” It was one time too many.

She didn’t feel any guilt, instead she felt a huge sense of relief; no more cleaning, no more waiting on people she hated, no more taunts. She could finally be happy. She would marry her Prince Charming and live happily after ever, just like she had always wanted. He’d be on his way; she knew he was looking for her, the girl with the glass slipper. She’d been keeping it safe, proof that it was her, although she was sure she wouldn’t need proof. He’d see that she was his Queen, and then…

And then she realised: she would never get away with it. There were strict laws in the Kingdom, strict laws that the Prince had to abide by, no matter who was implicated. The punishment for murder was severe: Death. A tear trickled down her cheek. No happy ever after, after all.

There came a knock at the door.

  1. Great story! This is definitely believable. You can only push a person so far before they snap. And her revenge is also her undoing, which makes it especially tragic. Great work!

    1. Thank you very much! I figured revenge is quite big in tragedies, so it seemed like a good theme to go with :)

  2. This is amazing and I loved the whole revenge aspect of this Laura, for a short piece of writing you crammed so much in, I really hope that she gets away with it because the sisters really did treat her badly!

  3. I think if she works fast kills the prince, blames him for the death of her family and then starts the workers revolution. She might just get away with it....... We all like a good workers revolution and she has the ideal background to rally the masses and storm the palace.

They can then all live happily ever after on three rather large roast hogs followed by goosy goosy gander....

  4. So many of the entries I've seen so far have been on the comedic side. It's nice to see someone go dark.

She's been cleaning up after her step family for years, I'm sure she can clean up a crime scene in time for the prince's visit.

    1. Thanks, I'd rather go dark than try and fail at writing something comedic!
This is true, she's had plenty of practise :)

  5. Well, maybe he can pull a few strings and make the mess go away. He's the Prince, after all! Great job.

  11. Wow Laura, this was really impressive! Maybe Gus Gus can come and gobble up the bodies just in time! Or is that a bit too dark and morbid maybe.. Nice work, you talented girl! :)
