Celebrate the Small Things

Image
Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author . The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week. This week I'm celebrating:  - I went to see The Fault in Our Stars on Sunday, and it was amazing! I cried buckets, of course, but it was such a good film and I can't wait until it comes out on DVD so I can watch it whenever I want. It also made me really want to re-read the book.  - I spent a good two days with my boyfriend this week (more time than we usually get together) and we had a great time. We went shopping and out for a meal; it was nice doing something other than staying in and watching TV.  - Camp NaNo started this week!  - I joined a new gym on Saturday, and I love it! It's much better than my old gym, and I think I'll definitely go more regularly because of that.

Goals for July

I didn't do so well with my goals in June: - Get up to chapter 12 of my NaNo novel re-written - I didn't manage this. I got to about chapter 5 in the end. June was a busy month for me; I was working 6 day weeks so I didn't get a lot of time for writing. - Read 6 books - I almost made this one - I got 5 books read. I still think that's pretty good, so I'm not too disappointed with this goal. - Plan for Camp NaNo - I didn't get as much planning done as I'd like, but I don't mind too much. I'm doing short stories and flash fiction, which I don't usually do much planning for anyway.  Here's hoping I'm more successful with my goals for this month. I'm keeping it simple, so I should manage it. Here are my goals for July: - Complete Camp NaNoWriMo - I've set 31,000 words as my goal, so that's 1000 words a day. I'm off to a slow start, but I'm sure I'll get there.  - Read 6 books - Hopefully I'll be ...

IWSG and What's Up Wednesday

The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers. It's such an amazing group, it even has its own website now, which you can visit here . I can't believe it's July already! Time flies when you're having fun (or when you're really busy with work!) I'm not feeling too bad at the minute with regards to my writing. Camp NaNoWriMo started yesterday, but I haven't actually written anything for it yet. My boyfriend came to Hull on Monday (he lives about an hour away). It's usually me going to visit him, so it was nice that he came here for once. However, it did mean that I didn't get any time to write. He's gone home now, so I should get started tonight. I'm really excited because I'll be writing lots of short stories instead of one novel, and I've got some really good ideas.  ...

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author . The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week. This week I'm celebrating: - My graphics card stopped working this week. While this isn't something to celebrate, it's helped me with my writing. Now that I can't play on any games (The Sims 2/3 and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, I'm looking at you) I have nothing to distract me from my writing. I've probably done more proper writing this week than I have in the last month. Due to this I probably won't be replacing it straight away; I'll at least wait until after Camp NaNo!  - Good books. I've read some great ones in the last week; there really is nothing better.

Write Edit Publish: Romance

I haven't participated in WEP for such a long time. This month's theme is Romance, not one of my stronger genres, so I thought I'd give it a try. Last year I got an idea for a novel, and the following scene was inspired by that novel idea. Hopefully I'll get the rest of the novel written for NaNoWriMo in November. I wrote it kind of last minute so it's not brilliant, and it's not your typical romance either. I hope you enjoy it! Conflicted The door creaked loudly as I opened it, echoing around the small dark room. She was sat rigid on the mattress, wide eyes fixed on the door, but when she realised it was me, she relaxed and lay back on the mattress, smiling slightly. I edged inside, locking the door behind me, and crossed the concrete floor to sit beside her. I held out the brown paper bag in my hand, and grinned. “Guess what I brought?” She sat up, her eyes fixed longingly on the bag. Then they flicked to the door. “Don’t worry, he’s not ho...

What's Up Wednesday

Image
What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow , and the idea is to let other bloggers know where you are with any writing and reading goals you may have. 1. What I'm reading I finished reading Cinder , which I loved - definitely need to get the next one soon! I also read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor - I devoured this book. Again, I can't wait to read the next in my series.  I'm now reading The Trouble with Flying by Rachel Morgan (in exchange for a review) and still reading A Clash of Kings . 2. What I'm writing  I'm mainly focusing on preparation for Camp NaNo, which starts in July. I'm planning on writing short stories/flash fiction for it, and I want to get plenty of ideas down and maybe start writing a few short outlines before the challenge begins.  3. What else I've been up to Mostly working - I've been getting a lot of overtime in lately, sin...

The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week. - I had a great time with my dad and my sister on Wednesday night - I couldn't see him on Father's Day because I was working, so my sister and I cooked a meal for him on Wednesday instead. It was lovely to see him again, and I think we'll be making it a regular thing.  - I had a migraine on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, which isn't something to celebrate but my boyfriend's mum gave me a migraine pill for it which cleared it right up - nothing ever works on my migraines, so this is good news! I'll be getting some for myself sometime soon.  - My sister got engaged last week! Super exciting, I can't wait until she starts planning the wedding :)
