Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Lexa Cain. The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week, no matter how small.

I haven't posted for a while, it's been a busy few weeks!


Here's what I'm celebrating this week:
- I had a fantastic time in Rhodes, Greece with my mum; we got back last week, and now it feels like we never went away! It was very strange being somewhere so sunny in October!

- I posted for the Halloween edition for Write Edit Publish on Wednesday, and got some great feedback for my spooky story. Click here if you want to read it! The other pieces were brilliant too, as usual!

- It's my favourite time of year; the nights are closing in, there's (sometimes) a cold bite to the air, and my favourite holidays are approaching!

    We've had more than enough of that sunny warm weather here in October. Finally turning to autumn though!

    Hi Laura - it's not bad here so far either ... but I think I'd rather be in Greece! So glad you had a happy time ... It was a very good story and I hope a lot of people go over to read your WEP entry ... it was cruelly realistic ... cheers Hilary

    I'm glad you had a great time in Rhodes! I've been to Greece, but not there. It's hot and sunny where I am in California, but Rhodes is probably more interesting. It's going to be 65-70 degrees C (95-100F) in a couple of days here. I'm over it. Waiting for the real Autumn...

So I actually wrote this piece for April's WEP, but I was ill so didn't get to post it in the end. I'm quite glad, as it suits this month's theme so much more. The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers. It's such an amazing group, it even has its own website now, which you can visit here . This week I'm a co-host! Be sure to go to Alex's page and visit the other people who are co-hosting.  I had such great plans for my writing this month, but not one of them came through. There were three short stories I wanted to get written, and I also wanted to get back to my NaNo edits, but none of that happened. I still have a little time for one of the short stories, though; it's for Kyra Lennon's cat anthology , and it's due Friday! A is for Arachne and Arlee!

Before I get to my Greek Mythology part of this post, at the request of Alex J. Cavanaugh  (great idea by the way, Alex!), I'd first like to thank Arlee Bird for coming up with the challenge in the first place. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be taking part in this amazing experience every year. Thanks, Arlee! This is one of my favourite tales from Greek mythology, so naturally I chose it for my first letter. Arachne was the daughter of a shepherd, and was famous for the beautiful tapestries she weaved. Nymphs would travel from all over to see her work, and to watch her weave. One day, a nymph asked her if her talent was a gift from the goddess Athena. Arachne protested, saying her skill was all her own, and that her weaving was better than Athena's. Athena heard of this, and challenged the girl to a weaving contest.
