Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop now hosted by Lexa Cain. The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week, no matter how small.


This week I'm celebrating:

- Sunshine! It's been lovely, sunny and warm this week, a rarity here in England! I am a winter girl but I do like the odd bit of sunny weather.

- Looking forward to a three day weekend due to the bank holiday on Monday - hopefully the weather stays nice! 

- I can play a full piano piece now (albeit slowly, and with a few mistakes here and there) - I see this as a huge achievement, as I've never even been able to play anything on any instrument before, let alone a full piece of music.

    Congrats on the piano, a great achievement . . . I've always thought it would be lovely to play an instrument. Yay for the long weekend and sunshine!

    How wonderful that you can now play a whole piece! That was quick. And enjoy the sun. I just got up this morning to a downpour. And I had great plans to bike to the gym and back too...

    Yay for the sun and a 3-day weekend, and super congrats for being able to play a full piece on the piano. My mom used to teach piano, and I know from experience how hard it is - I was awful at it, but played bass in the orchestra instead. :)

    Yes - enjoying the Bank Holiday although it's been quite windy here - as well as hot and humid and then downpours! Congrats on the piano studies - although I play various instruments I would like to play the piano properly - maybe I should see about taking lessons?

So I actually wrote this piece for April's WEP, but I was ill so didn't get to post it in the end. I'm quite glad, as it suits this month's theme so much more. The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers. A is for Arachne and Arlee!

Before I get to my Greek Mythology part of this post, at the request of Alex J. Cavanaugh  (great idea by the way, Alex!), I'd first like to thank Arlee Bird for coming up with the challenge in the first place. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be taking part in this amazing experience every year. Thanks, Arlee! This is one of my favourite tales from Greek mythology, so naturally I chose it for my first letter. Arachne was the daughter of a shepherd, and was famous for the beautiful tapestries she weaved. Nymphs would travel from all over to see her work, and to watch her weave. One day, a nymph asked her if her talent was a gift from the goddess Athena. Arachne protested, saying her skill was all her own, and that her weaving was better than Athena's. Athena heard of this, and challenged the girl to a weaving contest.
