Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop now hosted by Lexa Cain. The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week, no matter how small.


This week I'm celebrating:

- Finally getting some writing done for the A to Z - cutting it a bit close! 

- I went to see Insurgent at the cinema on Tuesday, and I thought it was great - better than I thought it would be. I've also watched both The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay with my mum this week, since the latter was recently released on DVD. Catching Fire is my favourite, but I do love the rebel scene in Mockingjay.

- After a difficult week at work I have the whole weekend off to recover, which I'm very much looking forward to.

    My daughter's been trying to convince me to see Insurgent with her, but I wasn't sure. I didn't find the book as good as Divergent, so that makes me hesitant. Yay to getting A-Z somewhat done - that's a ton or work!

    Way to go with A to Z and surviving a difficult work week!
    I really liked Insurgent, as well. Interestingly, my youngest daughter was irritated that it didn't follow the book more closely but still thought it was a great movie. We had some great discussions about books, movies, and character development afterwards so it was a high scoring movie for us on all accounts (maybe I could even count it for our home-school hours - just kidding - my kids study over the amount of hours they need to for any state requirements).

    Congrats on your celebrations! I couldn't come up with anything this year for my A to Z posts so I didn't participate. It makes me sad. But if you're interested you can see them on my blog under Finding the Positives. They are just images so a quickie, really. :)
    Glad to hear you liked Insurgent. I am weary after Divergent disappointed me. Seemed like I was not at all as invested in the movie characters as I was in the book characters. And I agree, Catching Fire was my favorite of the book series. The movie fell flat for me again. I hope Mocking Jay will come back. :)

So I actually wrote this piece for April's WEP, but I was ill so didn't get to post it in the end. I'm quite glad, as it suits this month's theme so much more. The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers. It's such an amazing group, it even has its own website now, which you can visit here . This week I'm a co-host! A is for Arachne and Arlee!

Before I get to my Greek Mythology part of this post, at the request of Alex J. Cavanaugh  (great idea by the way, Alex!), I'd first like to thank Arlee Bird for coming up with the challenge in the first place. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be taking part in this amazing experience every year. Thanks, Arlee! This is one of my favourite tales from Greek mythology, so naturally I chose it for my first letter. Arachne was the daughter of a shepherd, and was famous for the beautiful tapestries she weaved. Nymphs would travel from all over to see her work, and to watch her weave. One day, a nymph asked her if her talent was a gift from the goddess Athena. Arachne protested, saying her skill was all her own, and that her weaving was better than Athena's. Athena heard of this, and challenged the girl to a weaving contest.
