Express Yourself Meme - Playlist!

Time for the weekly Express Yourself Meme. This week’s theme is playlists, whether for writing or non-writing. I don't have a specific playlist for a WIP, I have a playlist on you-tube that I use, which I entitled “Writing” because I listen to it when I write – original, I know!

My playlist is quite geeky – it’s mostly music from animes! I love anime music, and it helps me to concentrate when I need to write as the majority of it doesn't have lyrics and they really capture emotion very well. The songs are very helpful for getting me into the right frame of mind for a scene. Here is the link for the playlist – it really is mostly anime music:

I also have a lot of piano music in the playlist, for the same reasons; I love piano music and I find it really brings out a lot of emotions in me. This playlist is great for sad scenes, or hopeful scenes, or just emotional scenes! It also relaxes me, which is always a good thing; it's much easier to write when you're relaxed!

Then there's the music I listen to that has lyrics. There's Slipknot, Disturbed, System of a Down, Trivium, Bullet for my Valentine, Evanescence…all these bands have some great angry songs, but the good thing about them is that they all have such a large variety of songs, they cover pretty much any emotion.

  1. I love your playlist Laura, Evanescence are awesome although this stuff would have been what I'd have listened to more when I was younger it's still an awesome trip down memory lane. I love the anime stuff too, I always wanted to get into watching animes.

  3. Nice playlist! Music created for video games is seriously underrated. I've been humming tunes from old Final Fantasy games for years now.

  5. Gonna listen through your playlist the next time I write. I really like listening to piano music too, as well as epic soundtracks. You should listen to Thomas Bergerson or Two Steps From Hell.

  7. Sounds like you've got a FAB list here, Laura. I'm not a music/writer/person. I'm inspired by music, but I can't have it on while I write! Fun post. ;D

    1. Thanks! I used to prefer writing in silence, but now I don't like not having music on!

  8. I wish I had any form of consistent them for my playlists. Honestly, video game music seems to be the best answer.

  10. There is some really great stuff on that playlist. I don't usually listen to music when I write as the lyrics tend to get in the way. Having the instrumental stuff though sounds a good idea. If you don't mind, I'll be listening to some of yours next time I sit down for a writing session!
    Cheers,

    W.

    1. I don't mind, you might have to skip the japanese ones though! It is a great playlist, I can't listen to music with lyrics when I write, either :)
