IWSG - June

So lately, I've been having trouble with blogging. The only post I've been regularly putting up is the post I put up every Friday for the Celebrate the Small Things blog hop, and I rarely visit other bloggers now. Blogging has become more of a chore than anything, which I absolutely hate because I used to love blogging so much.

Upon reflection, I think the issue is that my blog doesn't have direction; I see it as a writing blog, and that limits what I can put on it quite a lot. It's made it quite stressful trying to choose topics to blog about, so I just don't bother.

I'm not ready to give up blogging; I still love being a part of the blogging community, and taking part in writing challenges like Write Edit Publish, but on the other hand those can't be the only posts that I write.

I've decided to give my blog a thematic makeover; instead of only making it about my writing, I'm going to make it about me. There's a lot more to me than just my writing, so why should my blog only show that one aspect of myself? I have a lot of other hobbies, things that I love to do besides writing.

After all, the name of this blog is "My Baffling Brain" - it's about time I matched the contents to the heading!

  1. Hi Laura,
You might want to consider starting another blog for your blogging posts where you blog about anything. I am a multi blogger, which means I have several blogs and each one reflect a different part of my life. It doesn't mean that I blog weekly in everyone of them. Sometimes, I missed two months blogging because of my writing. However, I don't stress out about it. Just something to consider before you change your concept.
    All the best.

  2. I think several of us are in the same boat. My blog is all about my books, the WEP and IWSG then I have several others, they've really missed me lately because life has been crazy busy. It's the way it goes, just do what fits your life and keeps it all fun!

  3. A theme makeover would be great and just might inspire you. My theme is movies, music, and writing, so it gives me wiggle room with topics.

  4. I hit that point too--where blogging was a chore. That was when I started Writerly Wednesdays and started giving away books. I mean, how could I not be motivated to give away books? =) Looking forward to seeing your changes!

  5. Hi Laura - I can understand the limitations you feel ... thankfully I decided to have my blog open-ended - what I wanted to do ... and the title just sort of slotted in: leaving me to write what I feel I want to write about ... mostly historical, education, food, etc etc ...

I wondered if you'd join is in the once a month "We are the World Blogfest" ... here's the concept set out by Damyanti ... http://www.damyantiwrites.com/2017/03/08/announcing-we-are-the-world-blogfest-watwb/ and I've written 3 so far ...

I'll be seeing you around ... and just do your thing - the blog is yours and I'm sure we'll be around - cheers Hilary

  6. Blogging has become a bit of a chore for me, too, of late. I'm just trying not to force it, but perhaps I should be looking into a blog makeover?

  7. I can relate to this feeling too, Laura and limiting what to blog about can make it even harder! I think it is a good idea to branch out into other subjects when inspired. I look forward to your future features.

  8. I couldn't continue to blog the way I had been. My writing suffered. So now I post for IWSG and Write, Edit, Publish. I'm sure things will work out.

  9. Yeay, yes! Your blog should be about you. Don't limit yourself thematically. It's your blog - your space.

  10. This is a tricky question, Laura, one only you can answer. I've finally pulled back to just the IWSG and WEP which keeps me out there occasionally, but finding a focus can be tricky. Thinking of you...

  11. As I read the beginning of your post, I thought why don't you pick a day and write about anything. Then I read that's what you'll do. Brilliant minds, right? LOL Enjoy your writing. Don't make it a chore but something you want to do. Good luck.

  12. Find the best theme(s) for you and go for it. Do what is best for you.

  13. Your blog can be anything you want it to be. Just because you're a writer doesn't mean you can't post about other things on occasion. Looking forward to your future posts!

  14. I think we've all struggled with blogging from time to time. I can relate to you there. Best of luck with the thematic makeover!
