Celebrate the Small Things and WEP Sharing

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by Viklit over at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author. The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week.

This week I'm celebrating:

 - since I watched the first Thor last week, I was able to go and see the new one at the cinema on Tuesday, and it was awesome! I totally love Loki, he's such an awesome character. It's made me really want to watch The Avengers again, but I can't find my copy.

- I've been getting on quite well with NaNo - I'm hoping to have my 50k done by Tuesday, which leaves me four days to focus all my energy on packing!

- One week until the big move! My mum and I took a lot of stuff over to Hull (the city we're moving to) yesterday, so there's only little bits to take over now. It's all starting to come together, and that's equally exciting and terrifying!

- I took Misty to the vets on Wednesday to be spayed, and she was not a happy kitty when she came back home! She wouldn't let me near her, she hid away for the entire night. I'm celebrating the fact that she's much happier today, back to her lovely purring, chirpy self.

Now it's time for this month's Write, Edit, Publish post. I haven't had a lot of time, so it's just a basic post about my NaNo progress.

I've had a lot of fun this November. I am so glad I chose this story to write; there have only been a couple of times where I have been at a loss for words, and I've overcome them fairly easily.

The idea for the story I'm writing has been brewing in my mind for a long time; I actually attempted to write it for last year's Camp NaNoWriMo, but that just turned out to be 50000 words of nothing! I cast that story aside, but I started getting ideas for how to make it work earlier this year. I worked on those ideas in my head for a few months, and decided to try the story again for NaNoWriMo this year. When I was planning the outline in November, I had a great idea and everything seemed to come together.

I love this story. I love the characters, I love the plot and the subplots, and I love that it's not going to have a happy ending. Of course, it's only bare bones right now, like all of my first drafts are, but it certainly has the potential to become something so much more.

I'm at 38000 words right now, and hoping to reach the 50000 mark by Tuesday. If I had realised I was moving at the end of November sooner, I probably wouldn't have participated in NaNoWriMo, but I'm glad I did - it feels like I've accomplished so much more now!

  1. That first 50,000 words was just practice and for you to get thoughts in order - now you are rolling!
I bet your cat wasn't happy. She was violated.

  3. Cats do love boxes, but then so do I although I do not sit in them . . . . . I did once sellotape my granddaughter into a cardboard box but then she did ask me to do it. She was not pleased she missed dinner though ,and her parents insisted on me making an air hole.

Good luck with everything I suspect it will all do to plan.

  4. Congratulations on your success with NaNo, I feel pleased with my month too, even though I may not reach the 50,000 so far the re-write is more delete than create - oops, but still an effort worth pursuing! Although, I'm trying to turn that around, I am pleased.
I can't believe your in the process of moving during the process - amazing the things we can manage when busy!
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. Congrats on getting that far! I almost never toss an "unworkable" story or idea. You never know what may bubble up to the surface after your subconscious has worked on it for a while!

  7. Congratulations. That is quite an accomplishment. I wish I could do that.

  8. I love that you love your story! And so many words already. Well done. And I'm with Li, don't discard your work, words are never a waste. Hope Misty is on the mend. Its a horrible thing to have to do, but it is the right and responsible thing. She'll forgive you. Hope the move goes well. I love to move, it's such an adventure.

  15. Hello Laura. Congrats on your word count for NaNo. I've still got 20,000 ish to go and doubt I'll make it, but I don't care. Like you, I love my story etc so that's all that counts. It'll get written. My November has been crazy and I leave for overseas in a week, so unless I pull all nighters I don't see how I can finish.
Good luck with the moving. Always difficult and exhausting! Thank you for taking the time to share with us about your writing!

  22. Hi Laura! Nice to "meet" you! I wandered over from the Write...Edit...Publish fest. Congrats on the high word count for NaNo! I didn't participate this year; too much going on and not enough energy! But I've done it three years and it's quite a task...especially with moving going on as well. Glad your cat is feeling better. Mine has been a bit under the weather. Never fun. I hope you have a smooth move into your new home! And best of luck in competing NaNo!

  23. Sounds like you're rocking NaNoWriMo! I've never done NaNo... maybe one day...
And I hope the move goes as smoothly as possible... moving is such a traumatic event, that I hope I never have to do it again...
Glad that your kitty feels better...
