What's Up Wednesday

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow, and the idea is to let other bloggers know where you are with any writing and reading goals you may have.

1. What I'm reading

I finished Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on Monday, and I'm already two thirds through Deathly Hallows. Hopefully I'll have it finished by the end of the week. I've no idea what I'm going to read after that!

2. What I'm writing

The plan was to have all of the first drafts for my Halloween stories done by now, but unfortunately I've had a couple of setbacks. I'm hoping to spend today catching up on them, and then I can do some NaNo prep.

3. What else I've been up to

One of the things that has set my writing back a little is the obsession my mum, sister and I have with Breaking Bad. We bought the second season the other day and have finished it already, having spent the weekend watching it.

The major thing that set me back, however, was pulling a muscle/trapping a nerve in my back on Sunday morning at work - by the time I got home I couldn't move, so I spent Sunday afternoon and all of Monday laid out on the sofa reading. Unfortunately I had to call in sick at work on Monday, which I hate doing, and I couldn't spend the spare time I had writing because I couldn't sit up at my computer.

On the bright side, like I mentioned above I got a lot of Harry Potter read; even I'm impressed with how much I got read on Monday - the last half of Half Blood Prince and the first half of Deathly Hallows, all in one day. I'm also glad that most of the pain has gone now; it still twinges a little, but I can write now and I'll be OK to go back to work tomorrow, which means I only had to have one day off sick, since I don't work Tuesdays and Wednesdays anyway.

4. What inspires me right now

I had a brainwave for my NaNo novel at work on Sunday, which has inspired me quite a lot. It means that one of the major plots of the story changes quite a bit, but it means that I have a lot more scope. I'm looking forward to getting some research done.

  1. Sorry about your back. Glad you can return to work tomorrow. The Breaking Bad thing I definitely understand.

  2. Hope you are 100% soon and leaping about again.

I have written a Halloween story all about knitting . . . . . . which of course I am saving for Halloween.

  3. Sorry to hear about you pulling your muscle, make sure to do a lot of rest Laura because if you rush going back then you're not going to go back 100% and maybe hurt yourself again.

  4. I am forever hurting my back. Some days I can work through it, but once I had to call out of work (which I also hate doing) for an entire week because I just couldn't move.

I haven't started watched Breaking Bad yet, but I'm certainly looking forward to it.

  5. I hear so many great things about Breaking Bad! I really need to watch it. It's on Netflix. Netflix, by the way, is every horror movie fan's dream but also a curse. It's caused me to miss out on time reading and writing up my reviews. :)

Sorry to hear about your back! On the bright side, you're enjoying Harry Potter, and HP rocks. :)

  6. Sorry to hear about you 'sick' days. But it sounds like you used the time well. Reading is vital to writing, right? :)

  7. I hope you feel better soon! I never know what to read after finishing the Harry Potter books, because they're that good! Good luck with your NaNo preparation - I'll be cheering everyone on! :)

  8. Oh! I'm so sorry about the muscle/nerve trouble. But hey, on the bright side, you probably needed that time to veg and regenerate those creative juices, eh?

  9. That's too bad about your back! You got some time to read, which is good, but having a back injury is never fun. Hope it's better soon. As you know, I'm about to start ORDER THE PHOENIX and I'm really looking forward to that. I've been loving this re-read so much! :-)

  10. I love re-reading books. That's how I know I really love them- if they're falling apart.
