IWSG October

The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers.

I'm still on a high from getting my dissertation finished last month, so my insecurities aren't too bad at the moment. I'm trying not to worry about what mark I'll get for it, since I don't find out until November, and there's no point in worrying anyway; it's not like I can do anything about it.

My insecurities now mostly lie within the prospect of starting new projects, although I would say my excitement to start them far outweighs any insecurities I might be feeling. I'm hoping to do NaNoWriMo in November - I've only ever done the Camp ones during the summer before, so it should be fun doing the original one.

I know which of my ideas I'll be using for this, all I need to do is actually start planning. There's a lot of work that needs doing: character profiles, outlines, research. It's taking me a while to get back into writing after my break, but I'm feeling quite confident; all I need to do is get started.

I've joined three Halloween themed blog hops (so far) which I'm really excited about: Spooktoberfest (hosted by Dani and Jackie), Write, Edit, Publish (Halloween edition), and the Halloween Blog Hop. I've had plenty of ideas swimming around in my head for them, so I can't wait to actually start writing the stories. I should have plenty of ideas to choose from.

I also feel like I've been slacking off with my blog lately, due to my dissertation and everything, so I'm hoping to start spending more time on blog posts, and hopefully be able to visit other blogs more than I am currently. I have plenty of time now that I've finished my degree, so I should be able to dedicate more time to the Blogosphere.

  1. I didn't notice you slacking.
You'll enjoy NaNo. I wrote my second book during NaNo 2010.

  3. Go NaNo! I'm sure you'll love it, especially now that you've had a little break from the dissertation. I didn't think you were slacking and am impressed - you have two posts today!

  4. I admire all you who take the challenge of NaNo. I don't think I'm doing any Halloween blog hops this year as I have a trip planned for the last week of the month.

  5. Oh my goodness... NaNo! Have fun with that O_O
I don't have the nerves to do it just yet. I have two little ones who come with their own schedule. And while I know we can do as much as we want and we are in charge, I just simply cannot start it without giving it my all and seeing myself to the end. You are awesome and brave lol

  8. Sounds like you've got a lot of exciting things lined up! I'm considering doing NaNo, as I'm mid-way through planning a new project - as long as I can hold off starting it until November!

  9. Your dissertation is very important - it's okay it comes first! You've enjoy NaNo in November; it is a lot of fun to do with so many more people than in the summer versions. I'll be there! :)

I love Halloween - I will have to check out those bloghops you've signed up for!

  11. I've only done a camp NaNo, too. I hope you have a blast doing NaNo this November! Just think, all this month you get to do the fun stuff, research and planning. At least it's my favorite part of a new project. Enjoy!

  12. I hope you have fun doing NaNo this November. I don't think I'll be joining in, which is a bummer, but I need to finish revisions for Champion in Flight, and they are going super slow.

Your new project is going to go great! I know it is. :)
    Happy writing!

  14. Congrats on completing your dissertation....that's great! I'll be attempting NaNo this year, as well....I won two years ago, but didn't finish last year. I have to make up for that this year.

With all you have going on, you're allowed to slip (a little bit :P ) on your blog. :)

  17. Congrats on finishing your dissertation. Good luck with NaNoWriMo. I'm not going to do the November NaNo. I just don't have it in me right now, but I plan to be productive during that month.

  18. Ohhhh... yay for not too many insecurities! And holy NaNo... you're so brave! I did it a couple years ago, and I don't think I'll ever do it again, LOL. Good luck!

  21. Congratulations! Good luck with NaNo. The jury is out on whether I will do it. I may just aim to do 50,000 words during the month on ANYTHING - short stories, articles, flash, novels, etc. We'll see. I'd like to do something, though, because it always gives me such a great kick in the pants.
