IWSG - August

I did it, I reached my goal for 50,000 words on my Camp NaNo project! It was touch and go there for a while; my sister got married on the 15th, which meant 4 days in a row of 0 words. I actually changed my goal from 50,000 to 40,000 at one point, but put it back up when I realised that it could be done.

And I did it!

Here are my final stats:

I actually finished a day ahead of schedule, so I'm pretty pleased with that!

The writing is absolutely awful (as first drafts so often are) but I'm looking forward to getting on with the editing process. I am going to let it rest for a while though, so I can come back to it with fresh eyes.

Besides, I have other things to focus on - there's another Write Edit Publish challenge this month, this time focusing on Reunions. After writing 50,000 words, 1000 should be easy! I just need to come up with an idea...

  7. And that's why I don't do NaNo--because the drafts are such a mess that it takes twice as long to clean them up, thus negating the speed of writing. BUT, it is an incredible feeling to have reached that goal. Are you dead yet? LOL. You rock!

  9. Lol, I change my goals all the time too, just in case. I like the little 'winner' that appears. Sometimes the goals alter because I realise the story isn't as long as I thought it would be.

    Congrats on finishing!

  11. Wow! Four days with no writing (for good reason, of course) and you still reached 50,000 words a day early? That is impressive! Well done!

  13. Congratulations, Laura. Awesome amount of words. First draft is allowed to be, er, shitty, they say. Really looking forward to what you'll come up with for REUNIONS. You always have a fresh take on the prompt.

  14. Super. Congrats on meeting your goal. Granted you have a lot of work ahead of you. But as a famous author said, you can't edit a blank page.
