IWSG - December

The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers. It's such an amazing group, it even has its own website now, which you can visit here.

So, in my last IWSG post, I said my goal for this month is to get some work done on my WIP. Well, I'm happy to say that I did get some work done on it; the downside is it was only one scene.

However, I'm counting this as a win, simply because this was a scene that I've been stuck on for weeks. Every time I've opened my document, I've just stared at the screen for a few minutes then closed it again.

The funny thing is, I actually finished the scene after I went back to work, rather than when I was still on sick. I think going back to work has motivated me, and made me want to do more. I wrote the scene on Monday night after work, so here's hoping it leads me to finish the rest of my edits.

While I may have hoped to have got more than one scene done when I wrote the goal for my last IWSG post, I feel like at least I've made a start. That one scene will hopefully lead into many more.

  1. If it was a tough scene, then getting it done is a big accomplishment!

  2. I've had that happen before--where one scene or twist held up the entire story. For me, if the core elements of the story aren't correct, the book stalls. Things have to line up right on a subconscious level for me to go forward.

Here's hoping you make epic progress now!

  3. Yes, it will! I write from one scene to the next. It just works for me better than trying to count words.

  5. It will, just keep pushing ahead. Think of of your work as the last thing on your mind and wake up with new ideas and answers.

  8. I'd consider that a win. I've had those scenes where I get stuck, and finally getting through them can make all the difference. Have a great weekend!

  10. You're definitely further forward! Especially if it was a part you'd been stuck on. Hopefully, that'll lead to further inspiration.
