Celebrate the Small Things

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop now hosted by Lexa Cain. The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week, no matter how small.



This week I'm celebrating: 



- I made it through Camp NaNo! 25,007 words altogether. There were a couple of days towards the end where I didn't think I was going to make it, but I got there in the end. 

- I'm off work for two weeks now, and I'm going to Greece on Wednesday, which I'm really looking forward to.

So I actually wrote this piece for April's WEP, but I was ill so didn't get to post it in the end. I'm quite glad, as it suits this month's theme so much more. Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly bloghop hosted by  Lexa Cain . The idea is to post anything you want to celebrate from the last week, no matter how small. Here's what I'm celebrating this week: - We're due thunderstorms today, which I really hope come! At the time of writing (Thursday evening) I can hear the distant rumbles of thunder, but no rain as of yet. It's been far too hot for far too long - here in England we're just not equipped to deal with extreme heat (or extreme any kind of weather, really). Roll on winter! I've been glad to go to work just for the air conditioning!  - I went to the gym on Monday and Wednesday this week, and will be going tonight as well - that's more in a week than I've gone all year. I will make it a habit!

A is for Arachne and Arlee!

Before I get to my Greek Mythology part of this post, at the request of Alex J. Cavanaugh  (great idea by the way, Alex!), I'd first like to thank Arlee Bird for coming up with the challenge in the first place. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be taking part in this amazing experience every year. Thanks, Arlee! This is one of my favourite tales from Greek mythology, so naturally I chose it for my first letter. Arachne was the daughter of a shepherd, and was famous for the beautiful tapestries she weaved. Nymphs would travel from all over to see her work, and to watch her weave. One day, a nymph asked her if her talent was a gift from the goddess Athena. Arachne protested, saying her skill was all her own, and that her weaving was better than Athena's. Athena heard of this, and challenged the girl to a weaving contest.
