What's Up Wednesday

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Erin L Funk and Jaime Morrow, and the idea is to let other bloggers know where you are with any writing and reading goals you may have.

1. What I'm Reading

I'm finally onto Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, my favourite of the series! I'm quite excited to finish it, because I have quite a lot of new books that I haven't read waiting for me.

2. What I'm Writing (+ Writing Goal)

I haven't been getting much writing done lately, because my shift patterns at work are changing and I never know when I'm working and when I'm not. Thankfully I'm on holiday for a week from the 7th March, so I have plans to get a lot of writing done then.

My writing goal this week is to start writing my posts for the A to Z challenge.

3. What Works for Me

Planning well, and giving myself enough time to do something. If I set myself a goal that is too big, chances are I'll blow it off and not do any of it at all. If I give myself things to do in small chunks, however, I'm much more likely to get it done.

4. What Else I've Been Up To

Mostly I've just been working - my hours are a bit crazy at the minute. I did some baking the other day, which was fun, and I'm planning lots of fun things for my upcoming week off work.

Comments

  1. I desperately need to reread Harry Potter - it's been so long since I last read them!

I feel you, I have a habit of giving myself impossible goals and then I end up bumming myself out. I find it a lot easier to achieve things in smaller chunks.

    Have a great week!

  3. Small chunks - good idea. Then you feel like you're making progress.

  5. I hope that your patterns start to settle down at work. And good luck with A to Z challenge! I did that last year and really enjoyed it :)

  6. Sounds like you're really busy and deserve the break. Hope you get some writing done and good luck with A-Z!

  7. Planning well is a must for me too. Lately setting big goals for myself has been the only thing that works. But I think I do something similar to you by chunking it into smaller more manageable bits throughout the week. Hey, whatever works, right? Sounds like you're super busy lately! Hope things level out a bit soon. Have a great week, Laura!

  8. I did the A-Z challenge a couple years ago and it was so much fun!!! I should have done more prep work; I was exhausted by the end... too exhausted to try it again. But if I had a good plan and prep work, I do it again in a heartbeat.

  9. Sounds like a good use of your week off. I did some baking too. It's comforting when it's cold outside.

  10. I love that you said you need to give yourself time to go through with your plan! That's such an important part of the process. I applaud you for doing the A-Z challenge, I don't have enough brain energy to come up with so many posts.

  11. Last night my wife told me that my Harry Potter knowledge was seriously lacking. I've only read the books and watched the movies once each. She is going to remedy this by sitting me down and having me watch the movies again starting tonight.

  12. I like your panning idea - may give that a try for myself. Hang in there until time off can permit writing time.

  13. I swear by good planning too. Hope you get lots of writing done on your holidays! :)

  14. You'll enjoy the break and I hope you get loads done! Little and often is a great motto to live by for day to day writing.

  15. "If I set myself a goal that is too big, chances are I'll blow it off and not do any of it at all." <--Yes, this. I'm the same way!

  16. Deathly Hallows is such a good book! 7.1 is my favorite movie, too.

Good luck on your a to z goal. I've always thought about doing that, but it intimidates me a little. Just a smidge.

Sorry about the work hours getting in the way of the rest of your life. I love baking--I usually bake or wash dishes while I sort out my plot.
