IWSG
The Insecure Writer's Support Group was created by Alex J. Cavanaugh as a place where writers can talk about their insecurities once a month, and receive encouragement and support from other writers.
The major thing that I'm insecure about this month is my dissertation. It's pretty much finished now, I just need to do a few last minute things and then get it bound and it'll be ready to hand in. I'm really pleased with the feedback I got from my tutor last week - he said that my writing had improved a lot since the start of the course, which is obviously great news.
Despite this, I'm really nervous about actually handing the dissertation in. I feel like I've done as much as I can to it at this point, but I'm nervous in case it's not enough. Hopefully it'll be fine, and I'll get a good mark on it. I certainly feel like I've worked on it hard enough and for long enough to earn a good grade, so hopefully my tutors feel the same way! The stories have worked out well in my opinion - some better than I ever expected.
Hopefully I'm just worrying over nothing.

I bet you are worrying about nothing. You worked hard on it and I'm sure the grade will reflect that!
ReplyDeleteI hope that good things come to you soon! Hard work rarely goes unrewarded. :) Happy IWSG Birthday!
ReplyDeleteWriting for grades can't be fun. At least you know that you're getting better. Good luck with the dissertation. I'm sure you'll do great.

That would really make me nervous, too. Though I think after all of the hard work you've put into this, it will be great! Good luck, Laura! :-)

ReplyDeleteYou totally did it, Laura. And you had good feedback, it will perfectly fine. Good luck and yay for finishing it up ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it'll be fine. :) Sounds like you've been doing really well!
ReplyDeleteI find that I do better when I rehearse like crazy, then take the final 24 hours before show time and shut it down. Gives the brain and body a chance to rest and I actually perform better.
ReplyDeleteA dissertation sounds really stressful, but you've put a lot of hard work into it and I'm sure it'll be great. We are our own worst critic.

Wow, good luck. I think it's only natural to be nervous about something you have so much invested in. I get you do great.
ReplyDeleteI think that everybody's going to find your dissertation amazing so don't worry Laura, best of luck with it.
ReplyDeleteI bet you get a really great mark for your work. But is is good not to be over confident . . . .
ReplyDeleteI believe you're going to do well. I have been reading throughout the summer about all the work you've done on it. You have done your best, now let the tutor make their call.
ReplyDeleteI think when you've put the time and effort into a project and generally have a good feeling about it, things turn out great. I sending you good vibes. :)
ReplyDeleteFinishing your dissertation is quite the accomplishment! Your tutor's comments sound very promising, so I'm sure your hard work will be rewarded with a great mark! Crossing my fingers for you! :)
ReplyDeleteI abandoned my main writing project recently so I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that with your hard work and good comments from your tutors that it will be just fine. I certainly understand your nervousness, though. I've never written a dissertation, so just the word (and the thought of the work) scares me. Best of luck to you!

Congratulations on completing your dissertation. And I'm sure, if your tutor thinks your writing has improved, it will be well received. Being nervous about it is a good sign though, it show you care and are passionate about it!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Have faith, Laura. You've worked hard and I'm sure it will pay off.
ReplyDeleteI always thought a HUGE part of college was being prepared and able to argue your grades with you professor. I mean, some will give you the cold treatment, but most are open to negotiate if you can present a compelling argument. So there's the back up, right? A persuasive argument.
ReplyDeleteBut you won't need it. You won't. ;)
Good luck on your dissertation! And I'm sure it is scary to hand it in, but I'm sure it's great!
ReplyDeleteIf you think you've done all you can, then I'm sure you -have-. You'll be fine :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with turning it in! I'm sure you'll get high marks and wonderful feedback. :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best, Laura...Your hard work will pay off!
ReplyDeleteTo echo Michael: All your hard work will pay off! Based on everything else I've read here, I think that your dissertation must be great!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your dissertation will be great. Don't worry about it and take the time now to chill out and relax.
