O is for...Once upon a time!

Taken from here
The phrase 'Once upon a time...' is a popular opening to many fairy tales. It implies that the story is not set in the time that it is being told, it's set long ago, when the world was still full of magic and strange happenings. It's sometimes used with the phrase 'far, far away', sometimes in a Kingdom. I've always loved the phrase 'Once upon a time', and I think it makes a great start to a fairy tale.

There's also a new television series called 'Once upon a time', which looks like it might be pretty good. I've only seen part of one episode, but it's certainly very fairy tale-like, which is why I want to watch it! The story centres on Emma Swan, who, unknown to her, is actually Snow White and Prince Charming's daughter. She is found by the 10 year old son who she put up for adoption, Henry, who tells her that he believes that everyone who lives in the town of Storybrooke is a fairy tale character under a curse. You see flashes of their previous lives in the fairy tale world as Emma and Henry try to break the curse.
I think that it looks like a really good show, and I'm definitely going to try and watch it as soon as I have the time! (Probably when this challenge is over!)

  1. My friend is hooked on to that television series- I promised her I'd start watching it once I'm done with all my college assignments.

In Arabian tradition, fairytales always start with the phrase "Kan ya makan" which means "There once was..or there wasn't". Which is honest, but kills abit of the story in that way.

    1. You're right, that does kill a bit of the story! I like reading fairy tales because even though I know they never happened, it's nice to pretend! :)

  5. Unfortunately, I missed the start of this series, and I prefer to catch things from the beginning. I've heard great things about it, though. Have caught gritty cop/fantasy "Grimm," which I've enjoyed (plus, the Grimm fella is pretty danged easy on the eyes). ;-)

  8. Once Upon a Time is a great show, and Robert Carlyle is absolutely brilliant in his roles (Mr. Gold and Rumpelstiltskin). I recommend watching it from the beginning instead of picking it up in the middle of the season.
