C is for...Castles and Chaucer!

A relatively short post today, because I'm going out soon and this is the only time I can write it! My main C word is Castles.

Many of my favourite fairy tales mention a Castle somewhere in the story. In Cinderella, she goes up to the Castle for the ball, and that's how she meets her Prince Charming! Because of fairy tales, castles always seem like magical places to me. Fairy tales nowadays tend to depict lives that people want to have, and let's face it, who wouldn't want to live in a huge castle? This is why the castle is so important in Cinderella - she goes from being a servant to her stepmother and stepsisters, to being a princess who lives in a huge castle with her prince charming!
I'm mentioning Chaucer in this post even though he didn't really write classic fairy tales, because I absolutely love his Canterbury tales, and they all have fairy tale qualities in my eyes. Also, I love the fact that J. K. Rowling took inspiration from his Pardoner's Tale for her Tale of the Three Brothers! Also, some of his tales are hilarious, for example the Miller's Tale. If you haven't read Chaucer before, give it a try!
Sorry about the lack of info in this post, I really don't have much time, but hopefully my D post tomorrow will be better! :)

  1. I love the Miller's Tale, it is hilarious! I love Castle's also, and living in Wales there are plenty of them dotted around to go and visit. If I won the lottery I would buy a castle completely kit it out with all the modern essentials and just live like a queen in luxury! It would be amazing!

Great little post, and love the picture! :)

  6. Sigh.....every girl has dreams atleast once in her life of castles and a charming prince...

My university is in an area where many of the local princes (sheikhs) live and so I really enjoy my ride everyday because I get to pass by some beautiful castles....although they aren't uphill as in fairytales and I can't see much of them because they're surrounded by high fences..

    1. Oh I'm so jealous of you! There are no castles near me, but I used to love going on holiday to France because we'd drive all the way to the South, and we saw loads of castles on the way :)

  7. Never was keen on Chaucer, but The Miller's Tale is very funny. It would be so good to live in a castle with a moat and a pet dragon and everything... :-)

  8. The Miller's Tale is hilarious! There's a castle in my town, just a shell of one, but a matter of local pride and identity :-)

    1. Even if it's a shell of one now, it used to be a proper castle, so it's definitely still important :)

  14. I love the picture of the castle. Is it from a story? It looks like it would be the center of a great story. The winding trail one needs to walk just to enter the castle could be the story. Who knows what is behind each of those bends?

  15. Hello, Laura! I read the Canterbury Tales in high school and loved them! It was even more fun studying them again in college. I haven't read them in a few years, though. I think it's time for Chaucer re-read!

And yes, I definitely wouldn't mind having my own castle, LoL!

Nice to meet you and happy A to Z!!
